FIFA's 2030 World Cup Plan: Europe's Boycott Threat Under New Pressure Tactics
FIFA'nın 2030 Dünya Kupası'nı 48'den 64'e çıkarmak için sunduğu FIFA Forward Enterprise planı, Avrupa futbol federasyonlarının boykot tehdidini tetikl

FIFA's proposed plan to expand the 2030 World Cup from 48 to 64 teams, known as FIFA Forward Enterprise, has triggered a boycott threat from European football federations. The plan, which offered $40 million to all 211 member nations, was criticized as a coercive tactic. UEFA called the move 'governance by intimidation' and vowed Europe's voice would never be for sale. FIFA's $9-13 billion revenue from the 2026 World Cup came at the cost of hosting cities bearing security and infrastructure burdens, a structure critics called 'unfair distribution' despite doubling the $7.5 billion from the 2022 Qatar tournament. The FFE plan envisions a $20 billion subsidiary, selling minority stakes to investors like Thrive Capital. However, its timing—announced just nine days after the 2026 tournament—and doubling the $20 million offer to $40 million within a day of backlash raised suspicions. The 75% approval threshold also sparked concerns. UEFA accused FIFA of 'lack of due process' and 'pressure tactics.' This development raises questions about FIFA's leadership. While President Infantino framed the plan as an 'opportunity,' critics deemed it a 'bad deal for football's future.' The move has sparked a re-evaluation of FIFA's governance.
