Will Turkey's S-400 Sale Impact US-F-35 Negotiations?

Turkey is negotiating the sale of Russian-made S-400 defense systems to the UAE to address tensions with the US over its exclusion from the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program. According to The Wall Street Journal, citing US and UAE officials, this move aims to alleviate Washington's concerns about technology transfer risks. The US previously removed Turkey from the F-35 program in 2019, fearing that the Russian system could compromise sensitive data. President Donald Trump hinted at lifting sanctions during a NATO summit, stating that F-35 sales would be reconsidered. Turkey has yet to provide clarity on the future of its S-400 fleet.
Dr. Aslıhan Demir Note: While this maneuver increases short-term external dependency in defense, normalization with the US could unlock new market opportunities. However, technical integration of S-400 systems remains a significant risk factor.
