Market Dynamics and Competitive Implications
Bitget sits as the 6th‑largest global crypto exchange on CoinMarketCap, with a daily trading volume of $389 million. The New Zealand licence could intensify competition locally, opening partnership avenues with fintech firms and traditional banks.
Strategic Positioning and European Roll‑out
In January the firm announced a European headquarters in Vienna, Austria, appointing former Bitpanda chief legal officer Oliver Stauber as CEO of Bitget EU to spearhead its MiCA (Markets in Crypto‑Assets) expansion.
Deniz Arel – Director of Crypto Regulation & Compliance: “Bitget’s New Zealand registration not only boosts regional liquidity but also sets a compliance benchmark for global operators. As MiCA comes fully into force, the Australia‑New Zealand corridor can evolve into a parallel ecosystem to Europe’s stringent regime, lowering institutional risk perception and accelerating the mainstream adoption of crypto assets within traditional financial portfolios.”
