BIST 100 Weekly Fluctuations: Banking and Holding Indices Decline, GOLDA GIDA and IŞIK PLASTİK Surge

The BIST 100 index experienced a 270.24-point decline during the week of July 13-17, settling at 13,981.05 with a total trading volume of 166.4 billion Turkish Lira, reflecting low liquidity pressure. Banking and holding sectors led the downturn with 1.91% and 0.76% losses, respectively, while GOLDA GIDA, IŞIK PLASTİK, and ÖZATA DENİZCİLİK outperformed with 39.06%, 33.68% gains. DESTEK FİNANS, BİG MEDYA, and EMPA ELEKTRONİK underperformed with 34.31%, 17.30%, and 14.97% drops.

Technical Direction: Decline Continues Amid Testing Support Levels

  • BIST 100 finds critical support near the Fibonacci 38.2% retracement level (13,800-13,900 range).
  • Ichimoku cloud remains below the 100-day moving average, confirming short-term bearish momentum.
  • Low volume suggests a need for stronger trend confirmation. 14,200 acts as prior resistance.
  • Markets are testing whether the 14,500-14,700 resistance zone will sustain upward momentum. Banking and holding sector weakness may signal slowing fundamental data. Algo-trading models lean toward short-term positioning amid ongoing decline.
