Federal safety investigators have found that the driver of a Tesla involved in a fatal crash into a grandmother’s home manually pressed the accelerator, overriding the vehicle’s self-driving system. The incident occurred in Katy, Texas, where a Model 3 reportedly reached speeds exceeding 70 mph (112 km/h), jumped a curb, and crashed through a brick wall, killing Martha Avila, 76. Despite the driver’s initial claim of using Full Self-Driving (FSD), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) concluded the manual input disabled the autonomous feature.
