Turkey's EV Charging Surge: 153.5% Increase in Electricity Demand
Turkey's electric vehicle usage has seen a rapid expansion in charging infrastructure, driving up energy consumption. In the first half of the year, the number of charging stations increased to 26,462, while electricity consumption linked to charging services rose by 153.5%. According to EPDK data, total charging time reached 17.569 million hours, and the number of charging transactions totaled 15.408 million. Compared to the same period last year, charging transactions increased by 96.6%, and total charging time by 137.4%. The total number of charging points reached 45,660, with 19,903 DC and 25,731 AC charging points. Ibrahim Öz, the head of EPDK's Energy Transformation Department, emphasized that the rapid growth of Turkey's EV market is driving the expansion of the charging infrastructure's geographical coverage. The sustainable growth of the charging network infrastructure is among EPDK's key priorities.
Turkey's EV market dynamics are increasing energy demand while also requiring the sustainable growth of charging infrastructure. This development is worth monitoring as it shapes the long-term outlook for energy markets.
